ACTIVIST CULTURE

In the aftermath of the fatal shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, thousands of Americans began to mobilize to shape a loud and proud group of newly-formed activists. The response to these protests from the rest of the country was varied. The right-wing media in particular had an immediate negative reaction. The counteraction from the St. Louis County Police force also caught some notoriety, as reports of their actions as militia-like and usage of intimidation tactics in their efforts to curtail the protests spread throughout left-wing media outlets. The majority of the media reaction painted the movement as a disruptive and disorganized riot-like protest, and the actual calling cries of the protestors went largely unheard by the American public.
